About Bergen Photo Walks
Bergen Photo Walks will take you on a photographic odyssey around our ancient and beautiful city, which was once the capital of Norway, and retains its own distinctive character to this day.
This long history has led to many reminders of the past mixing with the modern city in an eclectic, but aesthetically pleasing way, guaranteed to deliver some great photographic images from your visit. Bergen is full of museums and galleries, tourist sites and architectural gems as well as having some wonderful nature right on its doorstep.
During your Bergen Photo Walk, you will visit some of these and get a little bit of the history behind them on the way. We will also visit some of the less well-known parts of central Bergen, where photographic opportunities abound, to get a feel for the city as it used to be and take in a few of its quirkier sites.
As well as the quaint back streets and their architectural treasures, we cater for those who wish to get a small taste of the nature that exists so close to the heart of Bergen and visit some great vantage points for cityscapes, forests and mountain views.
The meeting point is the seating just outside the Radisson Blu hotel, beside the Bryggen Museum, at 10:00 am (5/6pm at the same place in the event of an evening tour).
All walks are conducted in English and last around 4 hours (2½ hours on the shorter tour) with plenty of time to stop and take those images you’ll want to cherish from your visit to this beautiful city.
Bergen Photo Walks are open to everyone from beginners to the more experienced photographer, young and old alike and are held in a very informal, convivial atmosphere.
Who Runs Bergen Photo Walks?
Bergen Photo Walks is run by Iain, a Scottish ex-pat, keen photographer and qualified Bergen Tourist Guide, now resident in the city. He has spent the last eight years or so getting to know Bergen and its streets, nooks, crannies and idiosyncrasies, with a camera always at the ready.
Bergen is notorious, and quite rightly so, for the amount of rainfall the city receives, so it is advisable to prepare for the worst with appropriate clothing and comfortable footwear as we will be covering a distance of around 6-8km in total.
Make sure you have suitable protection for your cameras and other equipment and, if possible, bring an umbrella for use when taking images.
Since walks last for up to four hours, it is recommended to have a meal first although we will have the opportunity to purchase some snacks and coffee or tea on the way.
To book your place with Bergen Photo Walks, please fill out the required details on the contact page and we will reply to your message as soon as possible.
